Columbia Basin Allied Arts Premier Season 34 begins Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00pm with IL Voce. IL Voce puts a fresh face on the global phenomenon of “Classical Crossover” or “Popera”. Their amazing sound is created by the combination of these four magical voices and complimented by their beautiful & distinctive look. This is what truly sets IL Voce apart. IL Voce is comprised of soprano, Tiffany Desrosiers, tenor, Marc Devigne, coloratura soprano, Melody Mercredi and baritone, DJ Calhoun. Bringing passion and virtuosity to their unique interpretations of romantic, classical, pop & opera favorites, simply put, IL Voce is “The Voices”. TOMMY DORSEY ORCHESTRA
Next, on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 7:00 pm Columbia Basin Allied Arts presents the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the best all-around big bands. It can swing with the best of them, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing”, was a master at creating warm, sentimental, and always musical moods at superb dancing and listening tempos. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is conducted by Nick Hilscher, a young veteran of big band experience. Their classic reputation still stands upon their on-stage appearances performing for big band audiences in performing arts centers throughout the world. GEOFFREY CASTLE
On Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7:00 pm Columbia Basin Allied Arts presents the pioneer of the electric six-string violin, Geoffrey Castle. From his beginnings as a street musician in New York City and Paris, he rose to play in the Tony Award winning Broadway production of Madame Butterfly. A theme of Castle’s career is to destroy people’s preconceived notions of what is possible on a violin, which he does every time he takes the stage. In keeping with the theme of changing the public’s perception of what is possible on the violin; Castle has long been an advocate of community outreach and school performances, inspiring the next generation to “keep music alive”. Electric Six-string Violinist, Geoffrey Castle, fearlessly brings the violin back to center stage with virtuoso showmanship and a 21st century attitude. Bring your entire family to this unique electric rock concert.
LIVE IT UP!
Columbia Basin Allied Arts Premiere Season 34 ends Saturday, March 10th, at 7:00 pm, with the group Live it Up! performing Hooray for Hollywood. The cast of ten perform song and dance shows that have thrilled audiences of all ages with visually captivating costumes and lighting designs, Broadway style choreography and stunning vocals. The Hooray for Hollywood production pays tribute to some of the most well known and beloved screen gems. This song and dance extravaganza contains production numbers from hit movies such as “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Footloose”,and “Dirty Dancing”. The performance is full of everything from country western dance numbers to beautifully sung arrangements to songs such as “Over the Rainbow” from the “Wizard of Oz”. Spanning a timeline of over 50 years, this show leaves nothing to the imagination. Live it Up! is a show enjoyed by the entire family.
This year’s Green Turtle Series include: “If You Give A Moose a Muffin” On Thursday, November 3, at 7:00 pm. If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he’ll want some jam to go with it. When he’s eaten all your muffins, he’ll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix. In this hilarious sequel to “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, the young host is again run ragged by a surprise. guest. Youngsters will delight in the comic complications that follow when a little boy entertains a gregarious moose. An adorable presentation to be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Jack in the Beanstock, A Basin Arts Production, directed by Randy Johnstad will be performed on Thursday & Friday, November 17th & 18th at 7:00 pm. Randy intends to use as many local talent actors, including college and K-12 students, as possible. Audition information will be forthcoming through the school systems. This is a wonderful opportunity for children that have dreams of someday performing in a full blown, on-stage production!
King Arthur’s Quest, presented by the Missoula Children’s Theater on Saturday, February 18th, 2012, with performances at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Witness the Lady of the Lake as she produces the sword in the stone. Hide with the Camelotians when the ghost of Arthur’s Father visits the castle and see the giant tower over the questing knights. Cheer for the king when he makes friends with the terrible dragon. All your favorite characters of Camelot – Arthur, Guinevere, Merlin, Taleisin, The Raven and Lancelot wrestle with the challenges faced by their people. The Missoula Children’s Theater will include local children from the area in this performance. Audition information will be forthcoming through the school systems.
